Centric Bank Hosts Next Generation Bankers Academy Sponsored by Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities, PA Bankers, and Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (August 24, 2018)Centric Bank hosted 22 college students from across Pennsylvania on August 15 at its Corporate Campus on Good Hope Road, in Enola, for Day 3 of the Next Generation Bankers Academy. The Academy is a collaborative program with the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities, the PA Bankers Association, and the Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers. The intense and competitive week-long experiential learning for college students is designed to introduce them to careers in finance and banking and is offered at no cost to Pennsylvania students.
“Centric Bank wants to be part of Pennsylvania’s solution to attracting and retaining top young talent in finance and banking careers. The U.S. Census Bureau shows a trend of educated young people leaving Pennsylvania after college and starting finance and banking careers elsewhere. Inviting students inside our institutions through the Next Generation Bankers Academy to show them how digital technologies are changing finance, the opportunities to impact economic development, and how critical community banks are to entrepreneurs and small business growth is a recruitment advantage. To learn first-hand from our executive team and lending officers affords these students a priceless real-world education, and we hope it’s a catalyst for our next generation of bank leaders,” says Patricia (Patti) A. Husic, president and CEO of Centric Bank.
Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer Jeff Myers shared insights on consumer and commercial lending, lending career paths, relationship banking, and the importance of community banks. “A Day in the Life” presentations by team members in credit analysis, underwriting, commercial lending, and consumer lending were followed by a panel discussion and Q&A inspiring the students to see banking’s impact far beyond account numbers and loan applications. Also addressing the group were Sandra Schultz, Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer; Peggy Elder, Vice President, Compliance Manager; Maura Cohen, Vice President, Mortgage Operations Manager and Consumer Lending Manager; Chris Conrad, Mortgage Loan Officer; and Chris Bickel, Senior Vice President, Commercial Lending Officer.
“As senior executives and career employees approach retirement, banks and regulators are rising to meet the challenge of ensuring that the next generation of bankers are prepared with the institutional knowledge and professional excellence required to not just succeed, but to lead the industry forward,” says Duncan Campbell, President and CEO of the PA Bankers Association.
